Hi. Welcome to the 12th episode of the Kairos wisdom keepers, the Witch wound and your authentic voice. I’m Janet Raftis, and I’m Ina Lukas, and today we’re going to talk about what the witch wound is, how it impacts your authentic voice and how to heal it.
So what is the witch wound? Well, the Witch wound is a product of centuries and centuries of persecution against women who practice the earth arts, so to speak, some men, but primarily women.
And this was basically an all out attack by the church on women. We talk about the burning times, which is being burned at the stake. And that was very intense. And estimates are up to about 9 million women having been burned during those centuries, during the Middle Ages, but actually, which wounding started much earlier. And in fact, there’s an account of a woman named Hypatia who was a mathematician, incredibly brilliant, a healer, and in the 400 CE, she was, you know, causing trouble for the church who had a different agenda. And, you know, she ended up being attacked and dragged through the streets until her death. And that’s really the first instance of like witch wounding that I’ve I’ve come across now, I think it probably started even earlier, as patriarchy became entrenched and gradually started to disenfranchise women from the earth, and that was very much a part of this agenda. So, you know, in the Old Testament, in Genesis, God gave man dominion over the earth and dominion over woman. So this really became sort of a pillar of the Orthodox Catholic Church as it gained power. So as the centuries progressed, they really doubled down and then tripled down on this power. And they got together with the magistrates and the civil courts in throughout Europe. And I want to you know, be clear that a lot of what we’re talking about today is what happened in Europe. So if you have European descent, this is very alive for you, but there were and are still persecutions of women and healers happening around the world. So it is likely that you have some sort of genetic influence, trauma within you that is connected to this. So what happened in Europe was that the church was getting more and more power.
The Church started allying with the government, with the monarchies, as a means of controlling medicine, controlling property rights, and gaining power and influence. And the witch hunts, which officially started as witch hunts, you know, around the 11, 1200s they were part because the men were taking over medicine, and they wanted to consolidate that power. But they were also a way that the church was able to gain property and wealth. So when a witch was arrested, she also had to pay for her prison time, her torture time and her death. She had to pay for all of that, and if she didn’t have the money, she had to hand over her property. Women were really targeted, because prior to the rise of patriarchy, there was a matrilineal handing down property was handed down the matrilineal side. And so women who practiced the earth healing arts, right, who were the midwives, who were the herbalists, who were the seers, these were the women who really were still so connected to Gaia, and so initially they really went after the older women, the Crones and the hags. And it’s important to note here that crone these women, were originally the wise women, and that was kind of the point, right?
The wisdom. Keepers. They were the wisdom keepers. Exactly. They were connected to the divine feminine, to the Goddess. They were connected to the earth. And they were the healers. And so they went after the older women. But as this time went on, the in the hags and the Crones, which originally hag means holy Crone, is connected to crown.
So both of these were titles of respect and wisdom. And as that happened, the church really turned them into the witches, right? And then once they were turned into the witches, it trickled down. It wasn’t just the elders anymore. It was all of the women, and it was a way to place the blame on them. It was a way to gain their power. It was a way to terrify everyone into submission. It was a way to turn people against one another, neighbor against neighbor, family member against family member, Friend against friend. And it was a way to scapegoat things. So if you know the crops were bad, oh well, you know, Susie down the lanes. I saw her give the evil eye to my farm, you know, or to my horse who died. And this was a way then, for the church to really entrench itself in all of society. And as a result of this, those of us who come or have ancestry in these areas where this happened, we hold still in our DNA the trauma of this period. I always love hearing your history transmissions so much. You know every time it’s like there’s just a deepening of awareness and awakening that happens when you talk about our history and our history as healers, because no really understanding that what’s at play in which wounding is disconnecting us from nature and our power and our connection to Source, right? Like that’s the ultimate thing, is cut them off from nature, medicine from nature consciousness, like this, is all what we’re talking about in the wisdom keepers, is cutting us off from the cycles and the seasons and the way that we actually heal in our bodies. Our bodies know how to heal. Nature knows how to heal. Our connection to Source, to Gaia, to spirit, whatever you call it like that is the most powerful thing that we have of this connection. So of course, this, you know centuries of traumatizing and killing and persecuting is like so much part of the programming that is still alive today. And it’s so important to understand this history of what we’re seeing playing out big time today in our politics and everywhere, Big Pharma, all of that.
How do you know that the witch wound is impacting this is a huge question. And you know, as Janet was just saying, like, if it’s in your lineage, if it’s in your history, it’s really you’re gonna be feeling that trauma in your DNA from a blood lineage. But also, if you’re someone who has lived many lifetimes as a healer, you’re gonna be feeling this from the soul lineage level, where you will have past life memories that are impacting you again. It comes in as a felt sense in the body. And sonse of like, what you’re experiencing isn’t real, and it’s not okay for you to have these premonitions, these intuitions, like, that’s all part of shutting down the little young witch.
I mean, there’s still so much programming against it. And I would say, you know, Ina and I have been in this world for a really long time, and it’s really only the past couple years that being a witchy has gotten cool. Like, even when we started in this field, there was a lot of and there still is, right? But I remember when I started doing healing work, people really with disdain, you know, saying like you’re so witchy. And you know what? There was, there was not a compliment at the time. Whereas. Now you can find more people who are open to it.
But even if you don’t have, you know, a great grandmother, a great great grandmother who was actually persecuted and killed. There were hundreds of years where people were living in terror of the persecution. And so it’s alive within so many people’s DNA still. And so you may find, I mean, even well intending parents have this unresolved trauma in their lineage and in their body. And so a mother might get triggered by her daughter having this really strong connection to herbal herbalism and natural remedies and stuff, yes, and be scared if her daughter’s like, I see spirits, you know, I saw grandfather the other day, and that trauma in the body is going to be like, No, you didn’t, right? And yes, this is also changing, but it’s still really strong, and it’s still there, and so you’re silenced, as Eno is saying, around your gifts, because the people around you are still in trauma, and it just gets passed down and gets passed down and gets passed down. And so, you know, here we’re talking about really bringing in the awareness of it, so that we can break out of that and start really living the lives we were meant to live.
When you understand the root of where the wound comes from, then you can actually start to do something about it. Yeah, yeah. And for those of us in the alternative healing world, we know that voices are still being silenced and twisted as misinformation and being shut down, really like these are actually the voices that are so important for creating change on the planet right now. So this work matters, and this work will really show up in your body, because the witch wounding is an activated nervous system response when you’re speaking truth to power. It really is, you know.
And I’m just having something’s dropping in here too. I want to say, you know, the white people from Europe were the colonizers, and they, you know, in quotes, took Christianity to the new world, right? They took this model to the new world, and then they really persecuted, attacked enslaved people, right? According to this model. So even though we see it as quote, unquote witch wounding in Europe, we also can really get a bigger picture of it that a lot of people were then persecuted in under a different context, but from the same root, right?
It was still that same like distorted, masculine, patriarchal, oppressive viewpoint that continued to traumatize and torture throughout the globe and people and cultures who were nature based Exactly, yes. So this fear is not imagined. It’s real, and that’s something really important to understand, that when the witch wounding is activated in you, in your nervous system, you’re gonna feel bodily reactions. You’re gonna feel a clenching in the chest, tightness in the throat, flushed cheeks, freeze response. You may be in a leaving pattern, leaving your body when you’re feeling this fear of speaking truth coming in, I mean constricted throat, chakras in our realm of experience is so common, you know, and this is one of the biggest healing points that we have. I mean, how does the witch wound impact you? Like, if you can’t use your voice, if you’re scared, if you’re having a full body shut down when you think about sharing your gifts in the world, that’s going to create a lot of obstacles and self sabotage, right? You’re going to you’re going to be afraid of being ostracized, betrayed, cast out. You’re not going to want to market your services, no, you know, if you’re afraid that somebody’s going to kill you, you know, or or kick you out of the group, or ridicule you you know. And that’s really how it’s more likely to show up now than it was, you know, three or 400 years ago, but the ridicule is real, right? And so that fear of like people laughing at you, shaming you, the fear of your family judging you, the fear of being on video, the fear of doing what Ina and I are doing, you know, being attacked. You know, my gosh, and we know so many women who hide out in their relationships, who haven’t shared with their spouses what they’re doing because of the fear they have of that judgment and the shame.
So we see this all the time. What witch wounding looks like is if you’re. Someone who has intuitive gifts, and you can feel energy moving through your body, moving through your palms, if you get psychic visions, psychic impressions, and feel a connection to nature, maybe you communicate with animal or plant spirits, but you’re afraid to talk to people about it, or you’re afraid that God may punish you, that you’re doing the devil’s work like this is religious trauma. We see this all the time, like women and men so afraid to speak to this stuff because of literally, the fear of God, the wrath of God, right? That they’re doing something that’s punishable. The witch hunts were done in the name of God, right? So the witch hunts were religious persecution.
You got to let that sink in, yeah, yeah. So all of this, like, if you find yourself you know, afraid to step out of your job, afraid to really do what you want to do. Afraid to bring your gifts into the world. Afraid to I mean, we see so many women who are Woo and witchy as all get out and their partners know nothing about it, because they’re afraid. They’re literally scared to death to expose themselves to their most intimate partner, women that are afraid to talk to their family about it, you know, like these fears are deep, because it’s a fear that if you talk about it, then you’ll be alone, then you’ll be isolated, you’ll be unable to share about it with the people that are close to you. So the trauma response is to stay blended, to stay blended in and not be your authentic self, to not be visible, to not be fully expressed. So this is a state of shutdown, right? We have all of these beautiful intuitive healers, connected women and men, who are hiding out in this deep which wounded fear response. And right now we’re in the season of lamas. And Lamas is all about visibility and outward expression. This is your time to shine. This is your time to be your magnetic self and be vocal in the world. This also happens to be the time when, frequently our fear of our own authentic voice will come up. Yep.
You’ll feel the innate pull to be more outward. And then you’ll, if you still have this unresolved in your body, will feel the clenching Yes, right? Yeah. And so this is definitely something, as ina was saying, like to be aware of, because awareness is really the first step here.
I love that so much. Yeah. I mean, okay, so how do you heal the witch wound? And I think what you just shared is one way, it’s the remembrance, right? It’s being out in nature, acclimating to the cycles, communicating with the plants and the animals really having an interactive, co creative experience with Gaia, with source like that, is a primary Awakener, because when you actually, like give into that aspect of yourself that is a part of your innate truth, because you are a biological being in an ecosystem, then you start activating the remembrance, and you started tuning to that remembrance, that and also, as we talked about awareness, awareness is so huge and really, really understanding, like, feeling like, Oh, my throat is clenching, or my heart’s clenching, and, ooh, I’m noticing that I’m really scared to talk about this. And, oh, my God, I took this amazing workshop the other day, or I listened to this awesome podcast, but I’m afraid to talk to my husband about it, or I’m afraid to talk to my girlfriend about it. I’m afraid to bring this up in my circle of friends, noticing that, and noticing that that is an indication that there is some trauma within the body, right?
So trauma in the body around this healing your nervous system is really important, because your nervous system, when it’s in dysregulation, goes into freeze, it goes into flee, it goes into fawn, it goes into fight, right? Like it keeps you from being able to actually process through the wounds that are ready to be healed. And if you’re never heard about this before, or you’re hearing about it again, and you’re recognizing, oh, I have more healing here. This is your invitation, right? This is an invitation. Gotta get out of your own way. You’ve got to become more devoted to the bigger collective healing than you are to your fear of speaking up.
Yeah, that is huge. This is so important. It’s like getting out of being like recognizing the self centeredness, right? There’s healthy self centeredness where you’re taking care of yourself, and then there’s the self centeredness where you’re just licking your wounds and picking at your own scabs and not actually being willing to stand up for something bigger. And that’s a beautiful way to step into the healing of the witch wound is by realizing like you matter, your voice matters. And there is a much bigger collective issue going on right now that is calling you forth. And when you’re being called forth, the fears and the body response is gonna get triggered. It’s gonna be activated. So the more triggered and activated you are in this, the bigger the calling is right and like, and the bigger the gap between your fears and you stepping into your power in that way.
But that gap can actually, you know, be healed. You can bridge that gap really quickly, because everything is quickening right now, and all of us that are healing these witch. Wounds are actually causing a form of CO regulation around the planet, like we need to be hearing each other speak. So part of this is finding a community of like minded people that you can lean into. Because when you are deep in community that gets you and that understands these things, it allows you to be seen. It allows you to be validated, and it keeps anchoring in the truth of the reality of who we are and what we’re really here to do. So that’s so important to be surrounded, you know, in your local communities, in your global communities, with people who are speaking truth, with people who are connecting more deeply into the earth.
Oh God, community is everything healing the witch wound. And healing is also everything when you’re healing the witch wound. And so we do have a super powerful and free witch wound healing and activation. This is a very powerful, energetic transmission and activation that supports the healing of ancestral trauma, Soul lineage, trauma and on an energetic level, helping to co regulate your nervous system to being more expressive, to healing. Also the witch money wounds, which we didn’t really tap into today, but are very present as well[h]. So we really encourage you, if you are feeling the activation in your body around this, we encourage you to check that out. We have the link for you in our show notes. Yeah, and that which wound healing and activation is so powerful you go through a process of healing lifetimes.
